This new session (semester? oh my) of Austin Free Skool is already jam packed with lots of fun and interesting workshops, classes, and lectures. So many, in fact, that our tireless volunteers haven’t updated this website yet! But we’re working on it. Stay tuned!

Class Proposal Deadline (January 20th)

Hey everyone, we are setting up our calendar for February & March! If you have always wanted to teach but were waiting to see if the world would end… well it didn’t! Now is the time! Get involved in Austin Free Skool!

We are looking for class leaders, volunteers, collective members, event planners, promoters, & trying to partner with other organizations. If you are interested come join us at our first collective meeting this year on January 13th!

Workers Defense Project and Austin Free Skool is having a puppet-making and creative political action workshop! We will be creating puppets for our We Build Texas! march happening next February that will represent the problems workers face in the construction industry. We’re Back!

Hey Everyone,
We’re back from the winter interim and here are some updates on whats been going on with Austin Free Skool!

1. We are currently setting up a new website that will look super glamorous and be more practical and resourceful!
2. Increasing our physical presence and trying to build more partnerships throughout the community!
3. We have recently obtained fiscal sponsorship thanks to College Houses and are eligible to apply for grants!
4. Working on the Feb/March Calendar and other media

Ed Talks was a rousing success!

First, thank you to everyone who attended and spoke. This was our second Ed Talks event and the first one organized, funded, and promoted entirely by Free Skool itself. Also thank you to Wardenclyffe for hosting the event.

We covered a lot of ground and heard from a lot of different speakers and backgrounds – from an English professor who moonlights as a certified naturalist, to a promoter of worker cooperatives, to a revolutionary photographer, to publishers of a feminist zine, and so much in between – and through all the different discussions, questions, and presentations a common theme emerged: community versus isolation.

Free Skool doesn’t normally wax poetic but Ed Talks really helped us underscore our purpose and mission: to remove divisions between people, to democratize education, and to help the community realize its potential. Education is community!

Introduction to Fortune Telling tonight is CANCELED

Caroline is sick with the flu so Introduction to Fortune Telling is CANCELED for tonight. It will resume next Monday at 9pm in the backyard of Spiderhouse. Look for the big palm reading chart.

Next week is an introduction to tarot! Bring a deck if you have one  or friends if you don’t.
